Research title: Gender stereotypes in the oral literature of two Ugandan communities.

Research project: This project examines the reflection of power relations between men and women in oral literature as they originate from and relate to culture and tradition, resource control and political power. It focuses on the working of specific gender stereotypes, - such as those of: work, beauty, marriage, parenthood, barrenness, impotence, political leadership etc - as reflected in the literature, and how they function to influence societal processes. The aim is to consolidate and compare folklore material from several Ugandan communities, and then prepare a book for publishing on the analytical findings.
