Dr Moses Galukande

Moses Galukande, MBChB, MMED, MHPE, is an Associate Professor and Chair of the Department of Surgery in the School of Medicine, Makerere University College of Health Sciences. His work hours are spent on patient care, research and teaching.  His postdoctoral research is focusing on triple negative breast cancer (TNBC): Oncogenesis and Prognostic biomarkers Study (TOPS). He is exploring new effective therapy opportunities and investigating the expression of heat shock protein - a protein that shields TNBC from conventional treatment and TNBC gene mutation patterns in Ugandan women. His other research interests include trauma, access to health care and health professions' education. Moses regularly supervises both undergraduate and postgraduate thesis research projects in general surgery and related disciplines. He is chair of the Quality Assurance Committee for the Makerere College of Health Sciences, where he leads the Safe Male Circumcision Project at IMG as well as overseeing development of surgical services, education and research. He is currently also the Chair of International Health Sciences University Council. Other professional interests include minimal access surgery and quality health service delivery. Moses has published 107 papers in peer reviewed journals, 24 of them on breast cancer.

Moses is a THRiVE-1 alumnus and was mentored in Cambridge by Professor Sir Michael Stratton at the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute.
